More local wildlife…

Almost a month ago a small male dolphin was found swimming with difficulties just off the coast of Roquetas del Mar in Almería, sadly it had become separated from its pod (family) and was in need of care, which is exactly what it got thanks to a wonderful local organisation called Promar. Yesterday and today there were presentations given by Promar on the beach at Almerimar, where the dolphin is currently residing. The dolphin is called Marco after one of the people who rescued him. Marco’s health continues to improve and once he is strong enough and all conditions are right, he will be released into the wild but this seems a little way off just yet.

It was exciting to see him and watch him playing with one of his carers, a moment of absolute beauty – we marvel at these creatures but to see a dolphin at such close range in its natural habitat was very moving indeed!

Promar has a Facebook page where you can follow the story of Marco, it is written in Spanish but it is well worth the effort to try to understand it – it is a fantastic story and you will learn more about the organisation and their goals.
